MacDONALD, Donald Hugh, “Donnie Lourdes” - 77, Antigonish, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, Thursday, January, 15, 2009, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late William and Mary (McCarron) MacDonald. Donnie moved to Antigonish in the 1950s and worked for many years as a pharmacist at MacKinnon’s Pharmacy, in 1980 he co-founded MacDonald Drugs from which he retired in 1997. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Antigonish Golf Club for over 50 years, as well as a member of the Seniors Curling League. Donnie was a great storyteller and always had a little joke to pass along to make you smile. Surviving are sons, Donald (Jackie), St. Andrews; Greg (Shelene), Antigonish, and Mary Anita (Jared) Swart, New Jersey; brothers, Ian , Leo (Helen), Halifax; Edward (Joan), Ottawa; sisters, Eunice MacDonald, Rita MacDonald, Lourdes; grandchildren, Christopher, Angus, Calum, James, Brennan, Ben and Owen. Also surviving are his MacKinnon stepchildren, Jane McDermott (Dennis), Calgary, Alta.; Ian MacKinnon (Marlene), Antigonish; Barb MacKinnon (Colin MacDonald), Antigonish; Kathy MacKinnon, Antigonish; Coleen (Frédérick Charette), Sydney, Australia; Rob MacKinnon (Robert Hatfield), Toronto, and his stepgrandchildren, Kelsey, Brett, Alex, Vanessa, Kendal, Morgan, Rory, Galen, Eilidh, Morag, Alicia and Samuel. He was predeceased by his first wife, Genevieve; grandson, Connor and his second wife, Agnes; brother, Sander; sister, Kathleen; sister-in-law, Margie and sister, Frances in infancy. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant St., Antigonish. Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. Monday in St. Ninian’s Cathedral, Antigonish.
