Francis William “Fin” Bowman

Francis William "Fin" Bowman, 84, of Monastery, Antigonish County, passed away peacefully, Friday January 27, 2012, surrounded by his family in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Born in New Glasgow he was a son of the late Charles and Margaret (MacDonald) Bowman. In his early years Fin worked at Haggerty’s Store, the CNR and Acadia Fisheries. He then became an equipment operator and worked for Nova Construction for a while and finished his career, operating a steam roller, with Ocean Paving. He enjoyed his time at work, especially getting to work with the younger crew, reluctantly retiring in 2003. He had a great love of nature, especially the domestic animals especially his beloved Tabby cat Dee-Dee, enjoyed gardening and was an avid Leaf’s fan. Fin was a member of the Holy Name Society, St. Peter’s Parish and the Union of Operating Engineers. Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Kathleen "Kay", children, Ronnie, Monastery, Shirley Levangie, Frankville, Sandra (Stephen) Webb, Havre Boucher, Terrence (Charmaine), Ashdale, Cathy (Wayne) Hamblin, Lower Sackville, Joan (Jerry) Berkvens, Windsor Forks, Janet (Robert) Fraser, Merigomish, sisters Martha "Tee" MacEachern, Afton, Viola (Renie) Grant, Linacy, Step-mother Agnes Bowman and her children Charles (Maureen), David, Andrew, Alvin (Cathy), Trudy (Rob) Hallett, all of Monastery, Clyde (Jeannette), Afton, Kevin (Bernadette), Merland, Audrey (Blaise) Bailey, Bible Hill, 16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Edward, John, sister, Eileen Williams, son-in-law Ronnie Levangie and daughter-in-law Catherine Bowman. Visitation 7-9 pm Sunday and 2-4 and 7-9 pm Monday in St. Peter’s Place, Tracadie. Funeral Mass 11:00 am Tuesday in St. Peter’s Church, Tracadie, Rev. John Barry presiding, Burial in the parish cemetery. Family flowers only, please, donations to St. Peter’s Cemetery Fund, Thistledown Cottage at the RK MacDonald Nursing Home or charity of choice.
