Katherine Isabel Stewart
Stewart, Katherine Isabel – 96, Katherine Stewart of Ashdale, daughter of D.R. and Cassie MacGillivray of Ardness passed away peacefully early Monday surrounded by her loving family. Katherine was a teacher for 35 years and taught in small schools in Ohio, College Grant, West River and the last 14 years at MacPherson Elementary on Lochaber Road. She had a special interest in all her students and remembered them by name and followed their progression through the years. Her students all remembered her too and were flattered by her memories of their early years spent in her classroom.
Katherine is survived by her six sons, Charlie (Annette), Ohio, Ron (Helen), College Grant, Ned (June), Newmarket, ON, Terry (Linda), Brampton, ON, Donnie (Wilhelmina), Gaspereaux Lake, Brian (Eleanor), Park Falls, two daughters, Ann Grant (Cole Harbour) and Marion (Edgar MacDonald), Ashdale. She leaves behind 31 Grandchildren and 50 Great Grandchildren who fondly called her Supernana, a name she truly deserved and lived up to. Surviving are sisters, Mary Delaney, R.K. MacDonald Guest Home, Margaret MacLellan, Cloverville Road, and brother, Charlie MacGillivray, Mississauga, ON, numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Hugh Stewart (1999), and son Jerome (1972), brothers, Donald, Bernie, Johnnie and Alex, sister, Theresa MacDonald.
Visitation Thursday, August 9th from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at MacIsaac Funeral Home, Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral Mass will take place at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Josephs at 11:00 am on Friday, August 10th, with Rev. Daniel MacLennan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Karen Lynn MacDonald Allergy Awareness Society, or a charity of choice.
