Obituary of Colette MacDonald

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Marie Colette MacDonald (formerly of Southside Harbour), on Sunday March 17, 2024.  Colette, born in 1938, was the eldest daughter of John Angus and Margaret Anne MacDonald.

Colette attended Mulgrave High School, then went on to graduate from St. Martha’s School of Nursing in 1960 and dedicated herself to a career in nursing in Halifax and Boston. She was a giving soul, with a bright smile and quick wit, who was always thoughtful and willing to help.

She is survived by sisters Christina Smith (Dave) of Oakville, and Annabelle MacDonald of Toronto, and predeceased by her sister Catherine and brother Joseph.  Colette will also be fondly remembered by her nephews Sean (Kim) and Brian (Wendy) and their children Laura, Megan, Kyla and Dylan Smith.  She will be sadly missed by her loving companions, Jannine Howell and Mary George, both of Antigonish, whose caregiving and attention to Colette’s wellbeing was immeasurable, and truly appreciated by her family from away.

The family would like to thank the exceptional staff of the R.K.MacDonald Nursing Home, where Colette received excellent care in her final years. Funeral mass and interment at Ste. Croix Catholic Church in Pomquet will take place 11:00 am Saturday, May 11, 2024 .  In memoriam, donations to St. Martha’s Regional Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
